Tim Mutton

Founder and Leader

I’ve always felt like a black sheep. It’s too easy for people to put other people down because they’re different and unconventional, I did not sit within that box. I think a lot of people are black sheep and actually, you need to celebrate who you are. It is about having creative courage, discovering and setting yourself apart.

It was because of this that after achieving a first-class honours in Interior Design at Middlesex University and working at several large design agencies I established Blacksheep, a multi-disciplinary creative studio designing complete guest experiences in the hospitality sector.

I combine my passion for adventure, hospitality, travel, and design with my in-depth knowledge of the practical and operational aspects of a business. At Blacksheep designers take greater responsibility in the totality of delivering complete guest experiences using design as a unique tool to meet a business strategy. I have attended the Cranfield School of Management Business Growth Programme and an MBA in Creative Leadership at the International Business School in Berlin.

I believe in allowing designers to express themselves and reach their full potential. Blacksheep is a studio that allows designers to have creative freedom away from the dogmatic single owner stylistic or bigger agency production led principles. We fundamentally believe in the positive attributes of change and what it can do for businesses no matter what stage they are at in their growth cycle.

I’m humbled that Blacksheep is recently recognised as a leading design practice listed in the top ten best London interior design practices.

Outside of the studio, I’m proud to of had the opportunity to speak and judge at many events, including IHIF Berlin, 50th Anniversary of the British Institute of Interior Design, The R200 Restaurant Conference, The Sleeper Event, To the Table, The Restaurant & Bar Design Talks and The Hospitality Show.

While winning numerous design practice awards I have also achieved a personal Wave of the Future, Courvoisier The Future 500 and most influential people in Leisure and Hospitality Award.

Over the years I’ve made appearances and consulted on several leading television and radio programs, including The Menu for Monocle Magazine, Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares (Gordon Ramsay), Mary Queen of Shops (Mary Portas) and The Fixer (Alex Polizzi).

I take great enjoyment from teaching, writing and mentoring the next generation of creative talent with appearances and commissions at various Schools, Colleges and Universities.
